Our Story

Oakland, the birthplace of the Black Panther Party, is renowned for its revolutionary mindset. It may also be the last bastion of authentic culture in a Bay Area that has been overrun by billionaires, tech bros and vulture capitalists.

The Waymos that colonized San Francisco and Silicon Valley don't dare to venture into the land of Funk Town and the Murder Dubs. And if they did, they would probably get their catalytic converters jacked or be set on fire. Preferably both. The Oakandan Street Guard is not to be trifled with.

At Oakanda, we draw inspiration from The Town's legacy and spirit. Since our founding in 2025 from a small studio just east of Lake Merritt, we have supported dozens of independent artists, nonprofits, and local businesses. 20% of proceeds from the Freedom Collection are donated to local nonprofits, including immigrant defense and organizations led by veterans of the Black Panther Party.

Every single Oakanda frame is individually numbered, laser-engraved with a unique design, and painted by hand. Our new Bespoke Collection is an industry first offering 1 of 1 customization for performing artists and anyone looking to stand out from the herd. Lastly, we offer a variety of prescription, color-changing, tinted, and blue-blocking lenses.

We are dedicated to making designer eyewear that's higher quality and lower priced than cookie-cutter Ray-Bans, individually customized and made in Oakland instead of mass produced overseas.

Cutting-edge streetwear, accessible to everyone, serving the community: ALL POWER TO THE PUPIL

ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We strive to make our products accessible to everyone. To that end, we offer up to 40% off to veterans, people on long-term disability, and households that qualify as low-income. To apply, please email assistance@oakanda.org.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

We are prototyping a hybrid conscious capitalism/mutual aid network. The goal is simple: hack capitalism using a beautiful product to get money from those who have it to those who need it.

NONPROFITS

Our initial focus is non-profits offering legal aid, food, and housing support to Oakland residents. Our first partner is Self-Help Hunger Program run by original Black Panther Aunti Frances.

We are actively partnering with nonprofits serving Oakland. To apply to our nonprofit program, please email community@oakanda.org.

LOCAL BUSINESSES

We partner with select local vendors who align with our values. We especially want to support BIPOC and woman-owned small businesses. To apply to our vendor program, please email vendor@oakanda.org.
